When removing the front shocks the axle should be removed from the hub to prevent damage to axle assemblies as they can be come apart from over extension during. It’s highly recommended to remove the axle from the wheel hub, and that nut (and a few licks of a dead blow) are all it takes Jack the truck back up (hopefully if the shock stays compressed, you might have to figure something out to hold it together) it will fall out of the bucket and you'll be able to get it off easy
